in 2006, while working on her MA in African American and African Diaspora Studies at Indiana University, Garlia had the idea for an HIV/AIDS event in Bloomington, IN that would raise awareness about HIV/AIDS in the Black community and raise money for Bloomington Hospital Positive Link's Emergency Care Fund.
